When I was looking for a guitar teacher, I did not know what to expect.  Firstly I had the challenge of finding a teacher whom would fit into my busy shiftwork lifestyle. It was such a relief that I had found Ben as my teacher as he was flexible with his availability and he was able to provide lessons in the comfort of my own home, which was a great convenience.

My goal was to learn one particular song, so I could surprise my future husband (whom is a musician) on our wedding day, with showing him my ability to sing and play.

I had 6 lessons with Ben, and not only was I able to confidently reach my goal, but I also leant 4 other songs which gave me a great feeling of satisfaction as I was struggling with 1-2 songs when I first met him.

I guess I was determined to fulfil my goal, so I practiced as much as I could and this coupled with Ben’s patience and great tutorials, I thank him sincerely for helping me to achieve my goal.

I have no hesitation in recommending Ben to anybody who has had the desire to want to play the guitar, but for many reasons has not had the opportunity. My name is Caron and my two daughters and myself have been students of Ben since 2007. I had been quite awkwardly and frustratingly been attempting to teach myself guitar for about one and half years and found that I hadn’t really progressed past a “beginners” tuition book. Ben quickly assessed my progress with guitar tuition in my first lesson and since my first lesson I have continued to progress. Now I am able to play many songs with advanced techniques incorporated into them. 

My story is not just about myself, but also for the inspiration that Ben has given to all of us. Ben is very encouraging and always seeks to structure out tutoring to suit each of our individual capabilities. My eldest daughter dream of becoming an aspiring musician some day and I have no doubt that she will attain her dreams with Ben’s encouragement and never ending enthusiasm. She is doing extremely well and I’m afraid that my self-tuition appears to have been a total waste of time as she will no doubt overtake me in the near future.

Ben has been my ten year old son’s (Caleb’s) guitar tutor for the past three months and in that short time, Caleb’s guitar playing has progressed to a standard which has far exceeded my expectations.

Ben’s passion for music and learning is contagious and Caleb comes home from each lesson inspired, and immediately gets his guitar out and practices what he has learned in the lesson. Ben has a teaching style which is sadly lacking in a lot of tutors. Ben has taken the time to find out what music Caleb likes and every week, as well as the all important theory side of things, teaches Caleb a new riff. This has had a very positive influence as sometimes I think kids need to see an ‘instant result’ or they lose interest. Coming home and playing a riff that he has heard his guitar idol play really reinforces to him that anything is possible, and has him practicing and counting down the days until his next lesson.
On a personal note, Ben’s easygoing and friendly nature puts kids immediately at ease and encourages them to speak freely and ask questions.
